Hanging Up The Harness

At Hanging Up the Harness, we provide a safe and supportive environment for sled dogs ready to retire or transition to pet homes. Our mission is to help these incredible animals adjust to a new chapter in their lives as cherished family pets.

Our dedicated staff works closely with the dogs to teach essential skills for indoor living. From walking on a leash and riding in cars to mastering recall and becoming comfortable indoors, we guide them through the challenges of transitioning from working sled dogs to house companions.

In the meantime, these dogs continue to do what they love most by participating in sled dog tours. These tours not only allow the dogs to stay active but also give them a chance to connect with potential adopters. Many of our guests fall in love with the dogs they meet on the trails, providing the perfect opportunity to find them a loving retirement home.
