Meet Cashew
Cashew is a beautiful 10-year-old retired sled dog with a charming personality and a one-of-a-kind howl that comes from her mix of Siberian Husky and Alaskan Husky. She was born and raised right here in Willow, Alaska, and is the half-sister of Peanut—together they’re the sweet and spunky duo from the “nut” litter. Cashew spent her working years running mid-distance races (150–300 miles) with her former musher, Jessi Downey of Aimaagvik Kennel. Like her sister, she was a strong and dependable leader, but these days she’s all about shorter runs, fun free play, and enjoying the retired dog life. Cashew and Peanut are a bonded pair who have never been apart, so they will only be adopted together. They spend their nights indoors with their loving caretaker, Darlett, and their days hanging out with their dog yard pals. Cashew is a loyal, gentle girl who’s ready to trade in race miles for couch time and companionship—with her sister always by her side.
Fun Facts about Cashew
- Cashew has a very fun trick. If you hold your arms out, she will take a running start and jump up right in your arms like a baby. It is incredibly cute.
- She is a member of the “Woo Woo Squad,” our kennel’s biggest talkers with the prettiest (or most distinctive) voices.
- Cashew is also a proud member of the “Old Lady Gang,” a very exclusive club within our kennel. The Old Lady Gang all sleep indoor together and free runs together.
- Cashew loves to stick with her person on off leash walks through the dog center. However, she gets very excited and will encourage her person to speed it up by continually shouting “woo woo’s” from behind. She’ll let you know when you’re being pokey.
- Cashew and her sister were born half a mile up the road at our neighbor Bob’s kennel. He has been mushing here in Willow for 50 years.
