Koala Bear is a spirited and adventurous dog whose journey began in Alaska but took a detour through Colorado. Originally adopted by a friend of Alaska Dog Center owner Kale Casey, Koala spent his early years living the pet dog life. However, his strong prey drive and wild heart made him a bit too much for a typical home setting. Recognizing his potential, Kale brought Koala back to Alaska to see if sled dog life might be a better fit—and it was. Koala quickly took to running in the team and skijoring with Kale, embracing the active lifestyle and camaraderie of the kennel. Now, he thrives at the Alaska Dog Center, surrounded by his buddies and doing what he loves most: running and living his best life.
Fun Facts About Koala Bear:
- Koala is the king of the nicknames. Carrie has given him numerous nicknames including but not limited to: K Bae, K Baby, Lala Bear, HeyBae
- Koala thinks he’s a wolf and might just have the nose of one. He is our “wildlife alarm” and lets us know anytime there is anything interesting anywhere near us on the trail.
- Koala has ups. That dog is known to jump straight up in the air when he’s waiting for his turn to get harnessed.
- When Koala first moved to the kennel in Alaska, it took some time for him to get used to sharing his person with other dogs. He was an “only child” for years so living with 30 other dogs was an adjustment for him. Luckily he has gotten a lot less sassy and loves most the dogs in the kennel, but we always have to keep an eye on him with certain dogs.
- Koala enjoys training for longer runs but we think he prefers shorter and faster runs. We usually keep him with the “old lady gang” for shorter runs or skijor with him so he can really rip.
